WHITEHORSE — Yukon health officials are reporting two more deaths due to COVID-19 in the territory bringing the total number of fatalities to 20.
A news release Monday says Yukon has had 49 new infections of COVID-19 for a total of 128 active cases.
The territory had 18 deaths and 18 new infections as of Thursday, with an active case count of 132.
Acting chief medical officer of health Dr. Catherine Elliott says a death is attributed to COVID-19 when it is either the cause or a contributing factor.
She says this verification is important because severe outcomes and morbidity are key indicators that help guide decision-making to manage the public health response to COVID-19.
The territory has started easing restrictions this week, beginning with lifting limits on youth sports teams for ages 18 and under to 25 people or 50 per cent of a venue's capacity, and allowing up to 10 individuals in indoor personal gatherings.
