Yuhan Wang explored the space between sleep and wakefulness for her Spring 2027 collection, turning the bedroom into a setting for clothes that blurred the boundaries between lingerie, nightwear and daywear. Presented in London on September 19, the collection examined the private side of dressing through a series of romantic yet deliberately distorted silhouettes.
The collection was built around what Wang described as the "strangeness" of the moments before sleep, when familiar surroundings can appear different and thoughts can take on another intensity. In an interview with 5'ELEVEN, the designer explained that she wanted the bedroom to represent a personal space where different sides of a woman could exist outside of social expectations.
Yuhan Wang Turns the Bedroom Into a Fashion Narrative
The runway presentation reinforced that concept from the outset. According to Vogue's review, the first model emerged from four stacked mattresses before beginning a slow walk, establishing the dreamlike atmosphere that shaped the collection. Vogue described the show as being set in a hypnagogic daze, with Wang using familiar boudoir clothing as a starting point and introducing surreal details to create a sense of unease.
Wang's own explanation of the collection focused less on conventional sleepwear and more on the psychology of private spaces. "Sweet Nightmare used ideas of dreams to present a woman's inner world," she told 5'ELEVEN, describing the bedroom as a place where emotions, memories, desires and more instinctive aspects of personality could emerge.
That idea also shaped the way the clothes were constructed. Wang told the publication that the garments occupy a space "between dress and undress," reflecting ordinary moments at home when clothing can shift between sportswear, loungewear, pajamas and other pieces.
Lingerie, Drawers and Everyday Bedroom Objects
The collection translated that concept into garments that deliberately disrupted conventional clothing categories. 5'ELEVEN reported lingerie beneath polo shirts, lace stockings and outerwear fused with innerwear, while Wang singled out a "drawer dress" as one of her favorite designs.
The drawer motif gave the collection another layer of personal meaning. Wang explained that the idea was like pulling an inner world out of a drawer, with personal objects becoming part of the garment and revealing something about the wearer. Styling incorporated bedroom references including a lint brush and bone china, while some dresses featured partially open drawers containing objects.
Vogue documented other examples of Wang's surreal approach. Dresses were constructed to resemble open bureau drawers with underwear spilling from them, while a cherry-print mini slip was paired with a hand mirror. Another look combined an off-the-shoulder, lace-lined camisole with French knickers, while a puff-sleeve satin blouse and matching skirt carried a cup and saucer at the waist. Compacts, combs and other nightstand objects were also incorporated into the clothing.
The distortions continued through the final looks. Vogue noted a black lace slip shaped with asymmetrical padding and a baby-blue lace nightgown featuring unusual panniers, extending the collection's exploration of familiar bedroom clothing into something more surreal.
A Softer, More Personal Side of Yuhan Wang
Although Spring 2027 introduced unusual constructions and surreal styling, the collection remained connected to Wang's established interest in softness, delicate materials and femininity. The designer told 5'ELEVEN that exploring materials, color and texture has remained central to her work, while describing her approach as one that seeks to express women's inner worlds and sensitive sides.
For Spring 2027, that philosophy became a study of private identity. Rather than treating the bedroom simply as a source of sleepwear references, Wang used it as a setting where different aspects of the self could coexist. The resulting collection moved between the recognizable and the strange, using lingerie, nightwear and personal bedroom objects to explore what happens when the rules of everyday dressing begin to loosen.
