YouTuber Seán McLoughlin has criticized YouTube after one of his gameplay videos was age-restricted while other videos from the same series were not. The creator was playing Resident Evil Requiem, the latest title in the popular horror franchise by Capcom. According to Jacksepticeye, only the fourth video in his five-part Let’s Play series was restricted, even though all the videos showed similar gameplay and content.
Age restriction on YouTube means viewers must sign in to confirm their age before watching the video. This can reduce the number of views because some people may not be able to watch it easily. It can also limit advertisements, which may affect how much money the video earns. Jacksepticeye said the video was still doing well with around 1.4 million views, but he explained that age restrictions can still seriously hurt a video’s reach.
