After completing a 28-day tour across Africa, YouTuber and streamer iShowSpeed, real name Darren Watkins Jr., called the experience "life-changing." The tour's goal was to highlight Africa's rich cultures, traditions, and history, which are frequently obscured by unfavorable stereotypes, by visiting 20 countries, including Angola, Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, and Namibia. A large portion of the trip was broadcast live on YouTube by Watkins, who shared experiences like visiting historic sites, learning traditional dances, meeting athletes, and sampling regional cuisine. Watkins discovered his West African ancestry and celebrated his 21st birthday while on the tour, making the trip a significant personal milestone.
During his trip, Watkins emphasized that the tour opened his eyes to a side of Africa he had never seen before. “This tour really opened my eyes… it sparked something at the root of me,” he said while visiting Botswana. The streamer also engaged with local communities, attending the Africa Cup of Nations final in Morocco, celebrating Senegal’s national soccer team victory, and interacting with fans in multiple countries. Many viewers followed along, enjoying live streams that lasted up to nine hours, capturing both cultural moments and exciting personal experiences.
