YouTube star KSI says people are 'crazy' paying over-the-odds for the Prime drinks he launched

He started off his career as a successful YouTuber, filming videos of him playing video games like Fifa '07. Now, after more than a decade, KSI - whose real name is Olajide Olayinka Williams "JJ" Olatunji - has become a media mogul, growing his YouTube business, becoming a co-founder of YouTube group Sidemen, a CEO of Misfits Boxing, is a rapper and is the co-owner of the viral energy drink that sold out in shops in rapid timing causing punters to turn to online shops for the stuff - Prime.

Yet appearing on ITV's award-wining daytime television show This Morning, the 29-year-old rapper says it's popularity is "crazy" as he recalls seeing those who have bought the drink reselling it for over 10 times it's recommended retail price of £2.

The star was on the show to speak about his new documentary, KSI: In Real Life, which dropped on Amazon Prime on Thursday, January 26, which follows his life and explores his journey up until this point.

Speaking of the drink brand, which he co-founded with Logan Paul - another YouTube star - Phillip Schofield said to the mogul: "So there's obviously the drinks [Prime] which have [just been] insane?"

Holly chimed in saying: "Do you know where I could get some?" "I've actually brought some," KSI said laughing, before Phillip joked: "You could sell them." "Put it straight on eBay because you can get up to 53 quid a bottle for that stuff!"

KSI responded: "It's crazy. Even on TikTok I'm scrolling and I'm seeing people just selling it for £20 a bottle and I'm like 'What's going on guys?!'. "£54 is the highest we've seen, £54 a bottle," said Phil.

Earlier on in the programme, KSI - which apparently stands for Knowledge Strength Integrity - detailed his rise to stardom, revealing that he began his YouTube channel in 2009 just for fun - as an introverted young kid - which at that time made him no money. Once advertising got involved with the platform, KSI started to make his name, earning at first $100 - with which he bought an Armani suit, before raking in figures like £1500 a month - while he was in sixth form college.

He told Holly and Phil: "It got to a point where I spoke to my teacher being like 'I'm making this amount', and he was like 'how much is it' and I was like '£1500 a month' and he said 'that's more than me'." Shocked by this revelation, KSI soon left education and persued his media career, which has seen him hit the music charts and market himself as a successful boxer alongside his YouTube. He has also appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox among other shows.

His success has translated into him being seen as a role model thanks to his content in not just YouTube but in his documentary now too - Phil said: "There is this incredible influence that you have, everything that you do is massively successful" - so much so that at the end of the interview, Holly and Phil asked him to do exactly that.

They asked the media star to put a pair of underpants on his head, referencing a movement called Pants to Leukemia that has been started by an old friend of Holly's, Hannah Peckham, whose son, Bodhi, is battling the disease, to raise awareness - Hannah herself was on earlier in the show to speak about it and stars have been spotted sharing images with the hashtag #PantsToLeukaemia online recently.

They said to KSI of asking him to do such a thing: "If you do this, it'll be huge." KSI: In Real Life is available to watch on Amazon Prime now.
