Youri Tielemans warned against "big risk" of joining Man Utd amid transfer interest

Youri Tielemans has been warned against the possibility of switching Leicester City for Manchester United by a former Red Devils midfielder.

There has been transfer interest in the Belgian international midfielder from United and Arsenal, while Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the Foxes ace.

However, former United midfielder Kleberson has warned Tielemans that a switch to Old Trafford would be “a really big risk” as he attempted to dissuade the player from a move.

Tielemans, 24, will only have one year left on his contract at the King Power this summer after contract negotiations with Leicester came to a standstill.

The midfielder bagged six goals and provided four assists last term when he played every Premier League game for Brendan Rodgers’s side.

This season, the Belgian international has netted six goals – including from the penalty spot in Sunday’s draw against West Ham - but has made some costly mistakes too such as at home to Tottenham when his pass was cut out in stoppage time for the visitors’ winner

Kleberson made just 30 first-team appearances for United over the course of two seasons, having joined the club from Brazilian club Atletico Paranaense in 2003.

The Brazilian, who joined United at the same time as fellow midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba, failed to settle at the club and left two years later to join Besiktas.

He now believes that if Tielemans were to leave the King Power Stadium, Chelsea would be a better future destination for him that United – who would represent too big a risk for him.

“Youri Tielemans is not at a big club. Leicester City don’t have the pulling power that some of the other Premier League teams possess,” the Brazilian explained, speaking to Paddy Power.

“I could see Tielemans going to Chelsea because their style would suit him. When you watch Chelsea play, they are more comfortable with the ball.

“A move to Manchester United would be a really big risk for him, and Liverpool already have players who can control games and dictate the play.”

Foxes boss Rodgers said of Tielemans’ contractual situation on Sunday: "He hasn't declined. For me his position is exactly the same as what it was.

"He's a fantastic player and there's been no movement whatsoever, he's a player who has continued to work and is working well.

"Until the last day he's here whether that’s at the end of the contract or summer or beyond that, he will always give his best because he's a top professional and he showed his commitment today. There's interest trying to be generated by other people."

With less than 18 months remaining on his Foxes contract, the future of Tielemans is worth keeping an eye on over the months to come.
