Your guide to a fun Canberra weekend: geek out, shop local and laugh

Geek Expo Australia is a pop culture expo celebrating comics, collectibles, fandom, gaming and community - and it's in Canberra this weekend.

Comic creators will be at the expo including David Yardin who has worked with Marvel, DC, Image Comics, BOOM! Studios and Valiant Comics, bringing iconic characters to life across titles including X-Men, Black Panther, Injustice, Justice League, Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad and The Flash.

Australian actor Matt Doran, who appeared in The Matrix and Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones will also be at the expo.

There will also be cosplay, gaming booths, anime, panels, comics and pop culture retailers.

The expo is at Exhibition Park in Canberra on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 4pm.

Located in City Walk next to the Civic merry-go-round, the event features free, high-energy entertainment.

Circus Oz performs daily at 3.30pm.

Flux Entertainment has fire shows at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

The performances are free and bookings are not needed.

It's Creative Fibre day at the Old Bus Depot Markets in Kingston on Sunday.

The region's textile artists will be showcasing and selling their work at the market's annual Creative Fibre day.

You can see products and learn about the processes involved in designing, printing on fabric, and creating mixed media homewares and wearable textiles through weaving, knitting, crocheting, hand dyeing fabric and more.

The markets are on Wentworth Avenue and open from 9.30am to 2.30pm on Sunday.

The Queanbeyan Market is celebrating its Christmas in July market on Sunday from 9am to 2pm at the Queanbeyan Showground.

Grab a coffee or mulled wine and wander the more than 100 stalls selling food, handmade items and more.

Have-A-Dig is also bringing its remote-controlled mini construction vehicles for everyone to have a go in the Party Pit.

And visitors are encouraged to wear their favourite Christmas outfit or costume.

Nurse-turned-comedian Georgie Carroll is back with her brand-new show, Infectious.

She's described as "an undeniable live comedy powerhouse and a natural storyteller, she's razor sharp and riotous".
