A young man left a father and daughter overwhelmed after an incredible act of kindness. Roy Hilton Jones asked the young man if he could return the gesture, but he refused and told him “just pass the favour on to someone else”. Roy said the act of charity has made a significant difference to him and his daughter during cost of living struggles.
Speaking to NorthWalesLive Roy explained how when he reached the checkout at the Llay store he realised he had left his wallet at home. He reassured the woman on the checkout that he only lived five minutes away and that he’d return for his shopping.
Roy, from Wrexham, left the shop to go home, but before he’d left the car park a staff member ran out of the store with the receipt to tell him it had all been paid for. Gabe Purvor, who had been standing behind Roy in the queue and had heard what had happened, had paid for everything and handed over Rob’s groceries. Thinking back on the experience, Roy said he thought it important to share what the young man had done for him.

"I'd gone with my daughter to Aldi just to pick up some snacks, bits and stuff for her school meals. I got to the checkout and realised I'd forgotten my wallet, so I said to my daughter we'll have to see if we can leave all this stuff by the till and pop home quickly,” Roy beamed. "The lad behind me then said 'oh I'll pay' but I said: ‘Honestly it's all right. I only live five minutes around the corner, so thank you very much but it's okay.’ So we put the stuff through the till and the lady on the checkout said we'll leave it here for when you get back. I went outside and got in the car, and as soon as I was about to set off the lady from the till came running out the store arms waving. I drove over to her and she said: ‘It's okay, someone has paid for your groceries.’ The next moment that lad came out holding my groceries and passed them over to me. I said: ‘Give us your number and I'll pay you back.’ But he said: 'Oh no it's okay, just pass the favour onto someone else.’ It turns out the lad is from the same village and he ended up messaging me. I said I was overwhelmed and what a lovely thing that was to do.
"I was watching the news this morning and they're going on about some doomsday thing going on, the world's supposed to end or there's going to be another disaster some time soon. That's why I put this story out there, positivity is important. It's a nice thing for someone to do. I'm also a single dad so generosity off someone in these pressing financial times is especially grateful."
