A young man is fighting for his life after a serious early-morning crash in Co Kerry.
The single-vehicle incident happened at around 3.40am on Thursday at Dirrawest in Listowel.
A van with four occupants left the road and collided with a pole.
A man in his 20s was seriously injured in the crash.
Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene where they discovered that three passengers had also been injured.
A man in his 20s was taken to University Hospital Kerry where he remains in a critical condition.
One passenger was treated at the scene while two other men, aged in their early 20s and early 30s, were taken to the same hospital.
They are currently undergoing treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Gardai closed the road on Thursday morning but it has since reopened.
A garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí are investigating a serious single vehicle RTC at Dirrawest, Listowel, Co. Kerry in the early hours of this morning Thursday 20th January, 2022.
"At approximately 3.40a.m. a van left the road and collided with a pole.
"The male driver and three passengers were injured and one was treated at the scene for his injuries.
"One man (early 20s) was removed from the scene to University Hospital Kerry with serious injuries and remains in critical condition.
"The other two occupants of the car (early 20s & early 30s) were taken to University Hospital Kerry with non-life threatening injuries.
"This road was closed for a time following this collision and has now been re-opened for use.
"Investigations ongoing."
