Young man at centre of Old Trafford murder investigation named as neighbourhood is left reeling

The young man at the centre of a murder investigation in Old Trafford has been named as Salah Eldin Adam. The 21-year-old has been identified locally as the victim of the fatal 'targeted' incident on Kings Road last night (Wednesday).

Police were initially called to a 'disturbance' at a house at around 7.45pm. Mr Adam suffered serious injuries and sadly died at the scene. A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder; a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

A spokesperson for South Manchester Coroners' Court confirmed a file in relation to Mr Adam's death had been passed to the coroner. An inquest into his death will open in due course.

This afternoon (Thursday), a cordon remained in place around two houses as forensic officers scoured the scene for evidence. Shocked residents woke to find their street swarming with police.

Close friends of Mr Adam gathered at the scene to pay their respects. They were too upset to speak about the tragedy.

People were seen nearby hugging and comforting each other as they came to terms with the horrific news. People on the street spoke of their shock.

"It is really sad," one neighbour told the Manchester Evening News. "It's normally quiet around here, we're a friendly neighbourhood."

The man said witness reports suggested Mr Adam was followed before he was stabbed. That version of events has not been confirmed by detectives. The M.E.N. understands the attack is believed to have been targeted.

Another man said he saw 'several' ambulances round the back of one of the properties. "I went to take my dog for a walk and when I came back there were lots of police on the street," he added.

In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, Detective Superintendent Jane Higham said: "Firstly, my thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this time. Officers have been deployed to support them.

"We are in the very early stages of a murder investigation, and a team of experienced officers will be working throughout the night and over the coming days to understand a timeline of events that will help us piece together what has happened this evening.

"We recognise that incidents of this nature will cause concern in our communities, not just in Old Trafford, but across Greater Manchester and as a result there will be a visible increase of police officers in the area over the coming days whilst detectives investigate.

"Anyone with any concerns is encouraged to come and speak to us. I would urge people who were in the area at the time of the incident, or anyone who has mobile or CCTV footage that may be of interest to police to contact us, even the smallest piece of evidence may help with our investigation and provide answers for the young man’s family.

"We are also appealing to motorists and local residents in the area, who may have captured anything on Dashcam, CCTV or doorbell cameras to contact us. Anyone with information is asked to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101 quoting log number 3367 31/5/2023.

"Alternatively, details can be passed on anonymously to the independent charity - Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

The M.E.N. understands understands the incident is not linked to a recent spate of violence in Trafford, which saw section 60 stop and search powers put in place on Tuesday night.
