The devastated family of a young rugby player say that she died after contracting an infection while being treated in hospital for a match injury.
Maddy Lawrence, 20, tragically passed away on March 25, over two weeks after being admitted to hospital after being hurt while playing a match for her university rugby team on March 7.
In a statement released by UWE Bristol on behalf of the family, they say that their beloved daughter's injury was not life-threatening but that she died with a bacterial infection and underwent "life-saving surgeries" each day that she was in intensive care.
