‘You ruined your own surprise’: Woman’s engagement surprise ruined buy jewellery store mess up but TikTok thinks it’s her own fault

Proposing to someone can be a nerve-wracking, everything has to be absolutely perfect. While it doesn’t have to be a surprise, it can make the moment feel more special for some. Well one woman on TikTok had her big surprise ruined by a mistake at the jewellery store, but some think she only has herself to blame when it comes to the ruined surprise.

While the original videos posted by TikToker “Miss Annabelle” are now gone, the story remains and people on the app are still very much discussing it. One TikTok user by the name of Brittney recounts the full drama in detail.

The story explained

Annabelle and her partner had been ring shopping and had contacted a company that allows customers to design their own jewellery. They both put their emails down at a jewellery store but the store was supposed to only email the partner about the ring details and use Annabelle’s email after the engagement.

Keeping a planned proposal secret can be hard work, but it’s worth it. However, some sort of error or miscommunication led to Annabelle receiving an email about the ring her soon-to-be fiancé had purchased which obviously completely ruined the surprise. While she initially wanted to hide her knowledge of the ring purchase from her partner she ultimately spilled the beans on account of being too devastated over the surprise being ruined.

It’s at this point the couple decided to contact the company who were apologetic. They offered her a discount on the purchase before promising the mistake won’t happen again.

Almost immediately after, Annebelle receives another email with pictures and details of the completed product. Now the surprise was well and truly spoiled and a frustrated Annebelle took to TikTok to share her experience with others.

The reactions on TikTok

While some understood why she was so upset, a majority were less than sympathetic. In a video response one woman said “I am officially done with the all feelings are valid thing.” She then goes on to put the blame for the surprise being ruined on Annabelle for opening an email from the jewellery store (whom she gave her email to) twice. She also criticizes the decision to try and get money back for their own mistake saying, “you ruined your own surprise.”

One person even commented, “If I was the jeweller, I’d add 20% for the drama.” It seems much of the internet isn’t on Annabelle’s side.

However, some did hop to her defense as another person corrected the narrative, “No. She put down her contact info to get reminders After the purchase, when it was time for a cleaning because they bought the warranty. That’s what she was told.” In the comment section of another video, someone claimed that Annabelle didn’t deserve the hate she was getting, claiming she “is one of the kindest humans I know!”

Sometimes the internet can be a little dismissive of people’s feelings. While mistakes do happen, it’s worth focusing on the good instead. In the end, Annabelle and her fiancé shared pics of the proposal and it seems the magic of the moment was far from spoiled by the drama regarding the ring, that’s worth focusing on more than anything else.
