You'll wish you'd been ghosted after watching the new trailer for upcoming horror movie Obsession

Crushes suck at the best of times. What's worse than pining over someone who doesn't see you in a that way? Worse than day-dreaming what your life could be if they just dug you back? Well, Obsession poses that question – and the answer will make your skin crawl.

As spelled out by the above trailer, which is the most revealing look at the horror film we've got so far, hopeless romantic Bear (Michael Johnston) is smitten by his best pal Nikki (Inde Navarrette). Scared to wreck their decades-spanning friendship, though, he doesn't have the courage to ask her out.

Desperate, he uses a mysterious item called a One-Wish Willow to ask that Nikki "loved him more than anyone else in the world" – and, well, soon comes to regret it. As the promo points out, Bear can't match up to Nikki's unrelenting devotion once the wish takes hold. With that, his dream quickly turns into a nightmare, as Nikki starts terrorizing her new unwitting paramour.

Written and directed by Curry Barker (Milk & Serial), Obsession currently holds an impressive 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and was named #2 on Letterboxd's top horror movies of 2025. For context, Ryan Coogler's Oscar-nominated Sinners was #1, while The Plague is at #3, It Ends is #4, and Zach Cregger's Weapons is #5.

It releases in US cinemas on May 15, 2026, with Universal Pictures UK confirming that it'll reach theaters across the pond that same month. For more, check out our guide to the most exciting upcoming horror movies heading our way.
