'You don't get it' - Everton fans respond to Simon Jordan after pitch invasion comments

Everton fans have responded to a tweet from former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan slamming the way Blues supporters celebrated seeing the club secure its Premier League safety.

Frank Lampard 's side came from 2-0 down to beat Palace 3-2 on Thursday to ensure they kept their place in the top flight of English football. Goals from Michael Keane, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin inspired the comeback and fans flooded onto the Goodison Park pitch to celebrate at the full time whistle.

The scenes drew criticism from Jordan, who shared in a tweet: "How can Everton have a pitch invasion/celebration after avoiding relegation by the skin of their teeth after spending half a billion?"

Blues were quick to respond to the talkSPORT pundit and defend the post-match celebrations, with one fan saying: "Don't be so joyless Simon. It's been a dreadful season but Frank has got the fan base united now so there is nothing wrong with us letting off a bit of steam when mathematically safe."

Another said: "Because we avoided relegation by the skin of our teeth after spending half a billion. I mean, how could we not? Everton means a lot to Everton fans. You don't get it, remotely."

Everton fan and former boxing world champion Tony Bellew also responded to the tweet, sharing an image of an emoji appearing to 'shush' the pundit.

Blues boss Lampard himself hit back at anyone questioning the supporters' celebrations, saying: "They are just incredible. Bring it on to people who say 'you want to celebrate staying up'.

"Okay, I say 'you know what, it means so much', to the people at this club - and the players and the board, everybody. And also the circumstances of being 2-0 down and to show that character to win 3-2. People won't forget this.

"Everton fans won't forget this. Evertonians will say 'yeah this happens, this is the way we do things, that's very Everton', whatever."
