The SS Great Britain is one of Bristol's most iconic attractions. The city hotspot is a museum ship and former passenger steamship was the largest passenger ship in the world from 1845 to 1854 making it a key part of history.
Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the ship is now a key statement of Bristol's harbour. Many visit to explore the ship - which offers a range of different experiences and key ways to learn about history.
But, not many know that you can see the ship from above. The 'Go Aloft!' project is supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England and offers something a little different for visitors.

You can enjoy the experience that a member of the SS Great Britain’s crew would have enjoyed by climbing the rigging to over 25 metres above ground level. and if you are brave enough you can then edge out onto the main yard.
This one of a kind experience will take you nine metres out across the Great Western Dockyard below, unveiling a unique and breath-taking view of Bristol. But don't fear, you'll be strapped in safe and harnessed in.
Bristol is a beautiful city and there are many places to take in the sites, but the highest point of Bristol best-loved ship is undeniably one like none other. It will certainly give you something to talk about.
Go Aloft! is opening to the public on the on the May 18, with climb slots available from 10.15am to 4pm, Wednesday – Sunday. Tickets cost £10 and you can buy them on the day of your visit on the Weather Deck.
Whether you want to visit by yourself to admire the city from above or take the trip with friends to see who's brave enough to get to the top; it's bound to be a fun adventure.
