You can now book a hot air balloon ride with Uber

One of the world’s most iconic travel destinations is Turkey’s Cappadocia: a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its rock formations known as fairy chimneys and breathtaking scenery.

A major bucket list item to complete while in this one-of-a-kind location is to hop on a hot air balloon in the early hours of the morning to catch the sun rising.

Now, Uber Reserve will be one of the ways in which travellers can book a hot air balloon ride when they are at the Göreme National Park.

The 1.5-hour ride will include a birds-eye view of the ethereal rock formations and grand architecture from 3,000 feet in the air.

All Uber customers will have to do is head to the Uber Reserve and book a trip, which will set them back $150 per person (£123). Once their reservation is confirmed in the app, the Uber Balloon provider will get in touch to confirm the pick-up address and request copies of their passport.

On the morning of their reservation, travellers will be picked up directly from their hotels and taken to the take-off point to start their once-in-a-lifetime journey.

Users are advised to book in advance, leaving a minimum of 12 hours before their hot air balloon is due to take off and keep in mind that the trips will be subject to weather conditions.

To celebrate the big launch, the first 100 hot air balloon rides from October 23 to November 19 will be free. However, these free rides will be limited to four people per day.

The famed app’s new feature coincides with Cappadocia’s hot air balloon season, which sees millions of people visit the region throughout October and November.

Talking about the news, the Vice President of EMEA Mobility at Uber, Anabel Diaz, said: “What better way to help people quite literally go anywhere with Uber than by making one of the most iconic travel experiences in the world available in our app.

“Turkey is one of our most popular destinations for international travellers and this is yet another way they can use our app to access a magical experience when visiting the country.

“We’re always looking for new ways to add a little Uber magic to people’s vacations, so keep an eye out for more bucket-list experiences coming to the Uber app next year.”

The hot air balloon offering will join the launch of other multimodal travel experiences, including the launch of Uber Boar in Mykonos and Uber Sleigh in Lapland.
