'You can go and buy all the biggest names...': Former England captain offers insights on RCB's struggles in IPL

NEW DELHI: The IPL 2024 campaign has been far from satisfactory for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with the team languishing at the bottom of the points table after six games, having suffered five defeats.

Despite boasting a star-studded lineup including Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and others, RCB's performance has left fans thoroughly disappointed.

IPL 2024: POINTS TABLE | ORANGE CAP | PURPLE CAP

Former England captain Michael Vaughan recently shared his perspective on RCB's trophyless streak and their dismal showing in the ongoing season during an appearance on 'The Ranveer Show' on YouTube.

Vaughan emphasized the importance of team cohesion over individual brilliance in cricket, highlighting RCB's struggles despite possessing some of the game's biggest names.

"What I like about the fact the RCB have never won is it proves to me that team sport is not just about individuals. You can go and buy all the biggest individual names and put them into a team but it doesn't mean you're going to win and it's been proven at the RCB," Vaughan remarked.

Despite the presence of exceptional talents such as AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Faf du Plessis, Vaughan noted that RCB's inability to harness the collective strength of the team has hindered their success.

Vaughan stressed the need for RCB to redefine player roles and foster a cohesive team culture to enhance their chances of success in the IPL.

"I don't see them trying anything different. I just see them thinking that - it's probably wrong but again it's perception - they just seem to think because they've got great players in this team, the management thinks well we're going to win. It proves to me that even though you've got great players unless you get the team ethic, culture and you absolutely identify everyone's roles perfectly, you're not going to win trophies," Vaughan explained.

As RCB face Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday next following their defeat against Mumbai Indians, the team is under pressure to turn their fortunes around and rediscover their winning form in the IPL 2024 season.
