You can book now Christmas stays in a carriage on the UK’s longest heritage railway

Train enthusiasts, steam engine spotters and Railway Children cosplayers can now stay right beside a heritage line in a replica railway cottage.

Located right beside the longest heritage railway in England - the West Somerset Railway Line - lies The Railway Carriage.

The replica train carriage ‘cottage’ perfectly mirrors the vintage trains that chug alongside its neighbouring line and of which can be viewed right from its windows.

The property sleeps up to four people in two bedrooms and even features its own outdoor hot tub.

During the festive season visitors can take part in a series of specially laid on events.

The railway’s ‘Winterlights’ event returns this year, with a service running out of the Bishops Lydeard Station and through a captivating lit up route which offers a whole new way to view this beautiful stretch of the English countryside.

Whether you're staying at the railway cottage or not, tickets are available for dates throughout November and December, so there’s still time to bag your unforgettable festive day out before it’s too late.

If moody woodland lighting isn't your cup of tea, then perhaps Santa's Express is.

Expect carriages decked in festive ornaments and brimming with Christmas cheer, with the train running through picturesque stretches of the West Somerset countryside.

You can even expect a special visit from the man himself, Santa Claus, as he brings gifts made from 100% recyclable material en route.

The Railway Carriage starts from £125 per night during off-peak season for a minimum of two-nights, and from £298 per night during peak season for a minimum of 2-nights.

Independent Cottages also offer a number of other self-catering properties across Somerset for those looking for a holiday in this beautiful Southern English county.

If you're not so into trains but love the festive season, then a Christmas market may be more up your street.

There are many amazing festive markets across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland which run for much of November and December.

They are the perfect places to get ahead on your Christmas shopping, enjoy a glass of hot mulled wine, and support local traders and the community.

In fact, some of the UK's best Christmas markets have already been revealed for 2022, with the likes of Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and York all proving a hit with those after a festive break.

That is arguably more important this year than at previous Christmases, with Leeds City Council already calling off the city's famous market due to budget issues post-Covid lockdown.

To give you a helping hand, we've put together a full list of all the major UK Christmas markets currently set to go ahead - check them out here.
