Yosuke Ideguchi lifts lid on Celtic failure and insists he has no regrets over Parkhead switch

Yosuke Ideguchi has spoken of his disappointment at being discarded as an outcast at Celtic after failing to play at all this season during a flop Parkhead spell.

The Japanese midfielder was shipped off last week back to his homeland to sign a year-long loan with Avispa Fukuoka and he could make his debut for the club next week against Vissel Kobe in the J League opener. Ideguchi was introduced to the fans at the club's open day ahead of the big kick-off in Japan.

Ideguchi made just one solitary start for the Hoops – a Scottish Cup tie against Alloa – and made three substitute appearances in the Premiership. And the 26-year-old accepted he was downhearted at how it worked out for him at Celtic, with countrymen Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi all established as huge successes in Glasgow. Ideguchi said: "I am fit, I have been in full training for a long time. I am ready to play in a full game with my new club.

"I'm not going to look back at Celtic with any regrets, but I can't honestly say it was a success. Even when I wasn't playing I made sure I gave everything in training. I believe I improved as a player at Celtic and I am stronger for my time there.

"I still have the ambition to play for Japan. I have suffered disappointment before when I missed the cut for the 2018 World Cup, but I cheered for them like everyone else in Qatar. I've had a brilliant reception from everyone at Avispa since I came here on loan and I can't wait to get started in the league.”
