Yokohama has been getting rave reviews with a perfect five-star score on Tripadvisor.
So we had to pay a visit to the Harehills Japanese and Korean restaurant to see if it was worthy of the hype. We got our fair share of food with gut busting portion sizes – which had to be taken home! And vibrant colourful dishes which looked Insta worthy.
The restaurant is located in the busy Roundhay Road, close to big Tesco, so finding a parking spot can prove challenging if there isn’t anywhere free in the limited spaces in front of the establishment. The interior of the restaurant has a dark sophisticated design with floral wall hangings tastefully strewn across the venue.

The majority of the tables had cooking devices so if diners wish, they can order meat to cook themselves to their desired standard. We saw a range of diners with boiling pots of ramen before them.
The Japchae Stir fried starter consisted of glass noodles with beef (or tofu) and vegetables. It was a very impressive looking dish with lots of vibrant colour and it was brimming with vegetables. The sesame seed garnish offered a nice touch of class.
There was very little beef, blink and you’d miss it – or nosh it down too fast and you wouldn’t even notice the flex of meat strewn about the dish. Fortunately the noodles and the sweet sauce was utterly delicious so I can forgive the lack of protein in the dish.
King Prawn Tempura starter was colossal. It consisted of six massive deep-fried king prawns. The batter tasted really light and it was so very crispy. The prawns were really chunky and meaty. They paired perfectly with the soya sauce dip provided.
The Yangnyoem was a seasoned spicy fried chicken dish. I’d spotted it on another table and just had to try it. The plate was piled high with massive chunks of fried chicken wings. It was smothered in a sweet spicy sauce which paired perfectly with the crisp batter layering the chicken. Fried to perfection.
The Osam Bulgogi was a stir-fried pork and squid dish with vegetables marinated in the restaurant’s special spicy sauce. Once again the dish looked on point with lots of vibrant colours and brimming with vegetables to compliment it. It came sizzling on a hot plate – my only quibble is that I wasn’t given a big enough plate to put it all on. Once again, really generous portion sizes.
The pork and quid surprisingly paired really well together, each complimented by the sweet and salty sauce.
