Ylber Ramadani arrived at Aberdeen dreaming about European football. It is now looking more and more a reality with every passing week as the Dons are now up to fifth with their Saturday night win over Dundee United.
Fourth would guarantee Europe although fifth could yet come into play if either Celtic or Rangers were to win the Scottish Cup, or Hearts were to reach the final against Rangers after finishing third again. The Albanian international confirmed that was a big selling pitch from Aberdeen when they convinced him to make the move from MTK Budapest in the summer.
Ramadani said: “We are working hard every day and this is the key to our success, we have to work hard and support each other. When I spoke with Aberden at the beginning we talked about Europe, that's where they want to be every season. And I hope we can keep going until the end like this.”
The Dons have struggled away from Pittodrie but after seven straight defeats they finally put three points on the board against Dundee United - as their former Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin made his Tannadice bow. The win was another feather in the cap for interim manager Barry Robson. Ramadani admitted: “When Barry came in on Monday he told us we had to come here and try and win. It had been a long time since we won away.”
It was Goodwin who took him to Aberdeen. The midfielder acknowledged: “Look, football is like this, sometimes you are on the same team, sometimes you are in opposition.
“But now football moves on. We came here to play our game. I feel bad for him because he lost this game but we keep moving on.
“It was a difficult game because Dundee United want to survive in this league. We trained hard all week to win this game because it had been a long time since we had won away from home.
“I hope this is the start of us winning games again. It is important for us.”
Ramadáni admits it’s been good playing in central midfield alongside new captain Graeme Shinnie. In the team the new players have brought a new mentality and Shinnie there in the middle has helped me,” the Dons star said
“So now we have more mentality in the team. We keep believing until the end.”
