Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik affirmed that food security is a top priority for the government amid recent political and economic developments worldwide.
During his meeting with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Abdulmalik addressed the challenges of food security and the efforts made to implement the government's vision to mobilize the capabilities seeking to increase food security.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the issue of food security is one of the main challenges facing Yemen, especially with the increasing prices of food commodities globally.
He promised his government would provide all necessary support to workers in the agricultural and fisheries sector to address the challenges.
He pointed out that the agricultural and fisheries sectors face significant challenges, as they are among the sectors most affected by the Houthi militia's coup war and climate change.
Abdulmalik lauded the pivotal role of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in ensuring food security, supporting the agricultural and fisheries sector, and boosting the national economy.
The official Saba agency stated that the meeting also addressed the sector's promising potential.
Abdulmalik referred to the partnerships with donors to support the sectors, namely the World Bank, which pledged $45 million for the fish sector, and the Islamic Development Bank, which will support 18 fish landing centers.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of advancing the production of the fisheries sector, increasing export, and setting mechanisms and visions to boost the national economy.
He asserted that it is urgent to maintain and expand the agricultural area and stop violations.
According to official sources, he toured several factories, agricultural and fisheries institutions in Aden and was briefed on their work progress and production.
Abdulmalik stressed that an executive mechanism to develop the work of the General Organization of Agricultural Services should be developed to activate its role in providing facilities and guidance to farmers.
