Yasir Al-Rumayyan ally gives PIF hint as he reveals Newcastle owners 'strive for the best'

Newcastle United are set for a 'bright future' because the club's owners 'strive for the best and always want to bring the best on board'.

That is the view of Saudi Arabia's sports minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, more than a year on from the Public Investment Fund (PIF) buying an 80% stake in the club after the Premier League confirmed they had received 'legally binding assurances' that the Kingdom would not control the club. This breakthrough came just days after Saudi Arabia lifted a longstanding ban on beIN Sports, the Premier League's official Middle East broadcaster.

Newcastle's owners inherited a stripped down club in deep relegation trouble in October, 2021, but the Magpies are now flying in third place following a series of smart appointments and signings. After years of struggle, chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan reiterated just last month that each season is a 'building block towards our objective - to challenge for trophies both domestically and in Europe'.

When asked about the club's turnaround, Prince Abdulaziz said the hierarchy had done 'an excellent job' but hinted that they were only getting started as he spoke of there still being 'a long way to go'.

"I think the results speak for themselves," he told the BBC. "I'm sure they have targets to win the league and reach the Champions League and so on because they strive for the best and they always bring the best on board, so I think it's going to be a bright future for Newcastle."
