I’ve always thought small commuters look best when they stop trying so hard. Give me a clean scooter, a simple underbone, maybe something retro with a round headlight and paint that doesn’t look like it was designed by a MotoGP graphics department after three energy drinks. Small bikes are supposed to be approachable, practical, and uncomplicated. At least, that’s how I’ve always looked at them.
Clearly, a large chunk of Southeast Asia disagrees with me. Sporty underbones are huge business there, and Yamaha’s latest Y16ZR-R takes that obsession to its logical conclusion. This is a 155cc commuter with styling that looks ready for qualifying, and the limited Pramac Racing Replica goes even further with full race-team graphics, giant number decals, and an adjustable Öhlins rear shock. Because apparently commuting now requires paddock credentials.
