Xbox Games Studio Compulsion Games, known for South of Midnight and We Happy Few, is now hiring to develop a new IP described as “intriguing.”
Compulsion Games released South of Midnight in 2025 to decent reviews from critics, and the game is set to release again in 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 on March 31.
It now appears the studio has set its sights on a new IP, according to its LinkedIn post, so let’s break down what we know.
Compulsion Games outlines new roles for next project

In a new LinkedIn post, the studio’s founder, Joe Palin, announced that it is hiring for several roles, including:
- Permanent, full-time roles
- Lead Gameplay Programmer
- Engine Programmer
Alongside these roles, the studio is also hiring individuals on a 12-month fixed-term contract for the following roles:
- Gameplay Programmer FTC x2
- Senior Level Designer
- Senior Character Artist
According to the same LinkedIn post, which was also shared by the studio’s official account, Compulsion Games is hiring for “a fascinating, intriguing, brand new IP.”
If you’re interested in applying, I’ll link the LinkedIn post here, for Joe Palin, the Founder and Talent Lead at Studiotypes.
Compulsion Games was acquired by Xbox in 2018, alongside Ninja Theory and Playground Games. At the same time, Xbox also formed The Initiative, which has now been shut down, and the Perfect Dark game it was working on has since been canceled.
What do you make of Compulsion Games?
I can’t really speak on them as a studio, as I haven’t actually played its games.
That said, I’ve always liked the look of We Happy Few and South of Midnight, but I just never got around to playing them. I do wish it the best as it moves forward with a new IP.
