Xbox Gear Shop finally gives an update after being closed for five months — something special for Xbox's 25th anniversary?

Back in August 2026, the Xbox Gear Shop was taken offline amid a massive wave of budget cuts, people being laid off, and games being canceled, such as the Project Dark reboot.

While the website did sign off with a message saying that it would be back soon, there was no update from the website in five months since it was closed, indicating it was gone for good, or so we thought.

On January 7, 2026, the Xbox Gear Shop website finally updated its front page after nearly half a year of silence with a new message saying that "Pardon our dust while we finish updating our shop. We'll be back soon with old favorites and new gear!"

In the meantime, people can sign up for email updates on the shop's restoration progress and get access to exclusive content and discount offerings on Xbox products.

For those unfamiliar, the Xbox Gear Shop is Microsoft's official online store that sells official Xbox-branded merchandise. These products included clothing, collectibles, and fun novelty items like the hilarious yet functional Xbox Series X Mini Fridge.

With 2026 being the year of the original Xbox's 25th anniversary, could the Xbox Gear Shop be planning to reopen this year to help celebrate this occasion by selling all kinds of new nostalgia-themed Xbox merchandise?

Stay tuned to find out as we keep an eye out for any further developments from the Xbox Gear Shop.
