Xavier Ochsner and BYU Medical Schools Win Preliminary Accreditation, Clearing the Way to Recruit First Classes for 2027

Two new U.S. medical schools, one in New Orleans and one in Provo, Utah, have received preliminary accreditation and can now recruit their first students. The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), which accredits MD programs in the United States, granted the status to the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine and the BYU School of Medicine, Becker's Hospital Review reported on Oct. 14.

Both schools plan to welcome their inaugural classes in summer 2027 and say applications will open in the coming weeks. Xavier Ochsner will accept applications through the national American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS).
