Xavi aims dig at Alejandro Garnacho after 'provocative' Manchester United celebration vs Barcelona

Barcelona manager Xavi has aimed a dig at Manchester United teenager Alejandro Garnacho following his 'provocative' full-time celebration in midweek.

The Argentine youngster shone from the bench as United came from behind to knock Barcelona out of the Europa League and progress to the knockout rounds proper.

Garnacho came off the bench after 67 minutes to replace Jadon Sancho and contributed to Antony’s winning goal just six minutes later, playing a key role in the build-up to the strike.

The result sparked wild scenes in Old Trafford, with the 18-year-old winger appearing to mock Barcelona starlet Pedri by copying his celebration at full-time.

Pedri, who missed the second leg through injury, typically celebrates his goal by putting his hands over his eyes to mimic wearing glasses, a tribute to his father who wears them.

Garnacho received a barrage of abuse from Barcelona fans on social media for uploading a picture of the celebration, and now Xavi has waded into the debate as well.

When quizzed on the incident, the Barcelona manager said: "It is a difficult question to answer. When the player is happy, all the anger and different injustices towards you come out. Each one expresses it as it comes out. There is a bit of empathy missing.

"I think you have to celebrate with your teammates and not celebrate as a provocation for the other.”

United will face fellow La Liga side Real Betis in the Europa League round of 16.
