Tributes have been paid to the fiance of an X Factor star who died after falling from a hotel window.
Olly Marmon, 33, who died on Monday, was engaged to James 'Jaymi' Hensley who was one of the stars of the 2012 series as part of the boyband Union J.
It was reported that emergency services were called to the Hind Hotel in Wellingborough, near Northampton, at around 11.30 pm on Sunday.
Police said the incident was no longer being treated as a potential murder and a 34-year-old man arrested on suspicion of the offence had been released without charge. The force said it followed a post-mortem examination showing Mr Marmon's cause of death was injuries sustained from a fall from height.
Northamptonshire Police said a file was being prepared for the coroner. His mother Julie and stepfather Steve said words could not “express the devastation and heartbreak” they felt.
She said: “I can’t believe I am having to write this. No mother should have to do this.
“The relationship I had with Oliver was so special, he was my best friend. We spoke every single day. He called me mummy, he used to call me his guardian angel.”
Tributes were also paid on his Instagram page with one comment describing him as a “beautiful lad taken too soon”.
In a post from last September, Jaymi quoted the late Queen’s description of Prince Philip describing Olly as his “strength and stay”.
He said they had been together for 14 years and planned to marry this year. They were due to tie the knot next month.
Jaymi found fame when Union J came fifth in the X Factor but still launched a pop career and had a string of hits before splitting up in 2019.
He has also appeared on TV in shows including Celebrity Masterchef and Celebrity Pointless.
Police initially said they were investigating the death as murder but confirmed the probe had been closed following the results of a forensic post-mortem on Tuesday.
Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell, who led the investigation, said: “This has been a complex and fast-moving investigation, and our thoughts remain with Olly’s family and loved ones at this very difficult time.
“It is only right that an incident such as this is treated with the utmost seriousness, to make sure we have done all we can to understand what has happened, and to get the answers those left behind need and want.
“In Olly’s case I can confirm the evidence we have examined did not support his death as a homicide, which has now been further confirmed by the results of the preliminary forensic post-mortem report.
“Our initial findings and decision have been explained to Olly’s family who will continued to be supported by Northamptonshire Police as they mourn the loss of their loved one.
“A 34-year-old man arrested in connection with this incident has been released without charge and is now assisting the investigation team with the coroner’s process.”
