More often than not, jewelry carries deep sentimental value for the owner. Precious stones and metals, after all, are often gifted among loved ones, meant to last a long time.
Because of this, entrusting someone to repair or resize it if the need ever arises is a significant decision. One Wyoming woman on TikTok says that for her, the process went sideways when she sent her rings to Jared Jewelers.
Creator Layla Raye (@raye.kall) recently posted a video holding her promise ring. “Sent my rings to Jared Jewelers for resizing and repair,” she wrote in the video’s text overlay. “Got back a destroyed engagement ring (after re sizing) and a crooked, thinned promise ring that doesn’t even fit.”
Raye adds, “This was sentimental jewelry. Do better.”
As she spins the ring around for the camera, the band does appear to be crooked in one spot.
“Yeah you just wait till they open tomorrow because they’ll be getting another talking to,” she added in the caption.
Commenters Urge Her to Support Local
In the comments, viewers criticized commercial jewelers and recommended she go local instead.
“Just had my local jeweller custom made my wedding band,” shared one commenter. “Completed with care, precision and love in just three days after he melted down all of my scrap gold. Stop supporting big box stores.”
“This happened to me too!” said another. “I called and they told me you have to be very specific with resizing and say you want the shank to remain the same size it came in with or the shank needs to match with width of the whole band. You think it would just be obvious we want our ring to be even, nice and not thinner in some areas.”
A third user suggested something more concerning happened to them. “Kay destroyed my ring. I’m allergic to nickel and cobalt. I bought a sterling silver ring,” she wrote. “Tell me why I sent it for repairs and it came back and my finger got contact dermatitis.”
Raye also shared an update in the comments. “I went in the next day and had them fix it,” she wrote. “The ring doesn’t look any better but it’s not as thin anymore.”
Have Other Jared Jewelers Customers Experienced a Similar Issue?
Other customers across platforms have previously claimed to have had a negative experience repairing their jewelry at Jared Jewelers.
One Reddit user said they sent two diamond rings to be repaired, only for Jared Jewelers to allegedly replace one diamond with one “they won’t guarantee.”
Another poster on Wedding Bee wrote that the company mishandled her engagement ring when she sent it in for resizing. She says they damaged the ring’s engraving, shape, and even plated it with rhodium when it was a platinum ring.
The jeweler also has mixed scores on review platforms, with a 2.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot, 3.1 on Yelp, and 1.3 on Consumer Affairs. While some commenters report positive experiences, others point to poor customer service and product quality.
