Heading north from the city, you'll find what could be one of the most quirky and exciting holiday stays around.
Across the Firth of Forth in North Queensferry, lies the Armoury, a historic gun emplacement complex from the first World War that's been transformed into a beautiful holiday accommodation.
From the outside, it looks like an imposing concrete pill box but once you head down the steps and into the first floor, you'll find a cosy stripped-back modern stay with all of the mod cons.
The deceptive stay has been lovingly restored with one bedroom (featuring a large kingsize bed), a kitchen, a fridge, a shower and toilet and even a wood burner.

The open-plan living, dining and kitchen space is ideal for hanging out, while the entrance to The Armoury also comes with a large outdoor patio area "perfect for al fresco dining".
There are two comfortable sofas and a large snooker table that doubles up as the dining table, which the hosts say are perfect for working from and enjoying evening meals, along with a small double sofa bed should you have an extra guest come and stay.
With easy access to beaches and the Fife Coastal Path, the historical monument stay comes with a beautiful garden that is set within the owner’s grounds that guests can enjoy.
Both the garden and the 'lookout post' in the Armoury offer views out to the Forth Bridges, the village of North Queensferry and even stretch out across the water to Edinburgh as well.
The historic city of Dunfermline is also just a short 10-minute drive away.
You can find out more and book the Armoury via the Hoseasons website.
