THE writer behind a Covid drama slated the UK Government's "careless" response to the pandemic after a winning an award at the BAFTAs.
Dennis Kelly read out a letter to Westminster after collecting the single drama trophy for Together, which follows a couple who re-evaluate their relationship during the crisis and stars Scots star James McAvoy.
In a moving speech he said bereaved families had been "lied to" accused ministers of negligence.
He said: "The UK has seen one of the worst global death tolls through the pandemic. This government's response has ranged from careless to downright negligent.
"Our loved ones' lives treated as expendable, collateral damage.
"Bereaved families have been ignored, lied to and gaslighted by a government seemingly too busy partying to spare us thought, even daring to tell us that they were too busy to meet with us or start an inquiry promptly."
It was a night where partygate and politics were not far from people's minds, with multiple award winners speaking out against the planned privatisation of Channel 4.
Stephen Lambert, the boss behind Gogglebox, branded the Government's proposal as "destructive" after picking up the prize for reality and constructed factual show.
Meanwhile, Ant and Dec's mockery of the Government's initial denial of lockdown parties on I'm a Celebrity was nominated for the Must See Moment award.
