Kaia Gerber claims she had an exorcism performed on her as a child after someone told her she was “possessed.” Gerber shared the previously undisclosed experience during an Aug. 14 appearance on The Mitch Churi Chat Show.
The model and actress said the unusual ritual involved someone playing a didgeridoo over her body. Years later, her mother, supermodel Cindy Crawford, still took precautions when Gerber worked on a supernatural television series.
Gerber appeared on the Australian podcast with her The Shards co-star Graham Campbell. The episode featured the two actors discussing their experiences working on Ryan Murphy‘s television shows American Horror Story: Double Feature and American Horror Stories.
Then came the exorcism story.
During the conversation, Gerber explained that she had long been described as “haunted.” “I was told I was possessed as a child,” Gerber said during the interview. She added, “I just was possessed. I was haunted, my whole life.”
Then Churi asked whether she had actually undergone an exorcism, and Gerber confirmed that she had. Gerber then described how the ritual was performed. “Do you know how they did the exorcism? They played a didgeridoo all over me. That’s how they did the exorcism,” she said.
Churi pressed her on whether the unusual story really happened. Gerber stood by her account. “That actually did happen.” And later added, “I’m all healed.”
Gerber also connected the childhood experience to her later work on American Horror Story: Double Feature, the 10th season of the FX horror anthology series. She recalled that her mom gave her holy water before she went to the set.
“My mom gave me holy water to go to set with because she was like, ‘I don’t want you to get possessed,’” Gerber claimed. Gerber also said during the interview, “I do feel as though I attract beings from another dimension in a very casual and chill way.”
Gerber never talked about it before.
Gerber’s account on The Mitch Churi Chat Show marks the first time she has publicly discussed the alleged childhood exorcism in detail, at least according to her own statement during the interview. “I’ve never talked about it, but that actually did happen,” she said. Crawford has not so far commented on her daughter’s story.
The comments came as Gerber promotes The Shards, FX’s drama series based on Bret Easton Ellis’ 2023 novel. Gerber plays Susan Reynolds, one of the students at the center of the story. The series follows privileged high school seniors at an elite Los Angeles prep school in 1981 as a serial killer stalks teenagers in the city.
