Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are part of a group to have taken a 24 per cent stake in Formula 1 team Alpine.
The two actors, with their Maximum Effort Investments arm, have teamed up with RedBird Capital Partners, investors in Liverpool and the Boston Red Sox, and Otro Capital. RedBird also owns AC Milan and has a majority share of Ligue 1’s Toulouse.
Fellow actor Michael B. Jordan, seen most recently in his directorial debut Creed 3, is another co-investor.
The £171million deal now values Alpine, who sit fifth in the constructors’ championship, at £706m.
Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi said: “This association is an important step to enhance our performance at all levels.
“First, Otro Capital, RedBird Capital Partners and Maximum Effort Investments, as international players with a strong track record in the sports industry, will bring their recognised expertise to boost our media and marketing strategy, essential to support our sporting performance over the long term.
“Second, the incremental revenue generated will in turn be reinvested in the team in order to further accelerate our mountain climber plan, aimed at catching up with the top teams in terms of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.”
