Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds trolls 'tiny club' Liverpool in joke hidden by FIFA

Wrexham AFC owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have described Liverpool as a 'tiny, tiny club' in a light-hearted joke in FIFA 23.

Wrexham are currently the only club below the fourth tier of English football available to use in FIFA 23, with the Welsh side introduced into the game in FIFA 22 in the Rest of the World League. This came after the club was bought by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney back in 2020, with EA Sports and Wrexham agreeing on a multi-year innovation partnership.

FIFA 23 is the second consecutive year Wrexham have been in the game, and an in-game easter egg has been discovered where the two owners have had voiceovers inserted into the game when Wrexham take on Liverpool. The hidden joke comes during the handshakes between the two sides prior to the start of the game when you play Liverpool vs Wrexham in the kick-off game mode.

As in-game commentator Derek Rae begins his commentary, he passes over to the duo by saying: "This is a huge game for Wrexham and I believe we have a message from the owners, Ryan and Rob."

McElhenney speaks first, saying: "Well, this is a special game - this is a big club versus a very small club."

Reynolds then adds: "A giant club versus a minuscule, improvisational version of a football club."

The commentary returns to McElhenney who says: "And of course we're talking about Liverpool."

Reynolds then adds: "Tiny, tiny club Liverpool. Tight nit community there in Liverpool, really keeping this community-owned club together."

The joke is then finished by McElhenney, who says: "Very close to the massive Wrexham AFC."

And it's not just Liverpool who are the butt of the joke, with League Two side Stockport also receiving the same treatment by Reynolds and McElhenney. Stockport beat Wrexham to top spot in the National League last season to secure promotion to League Two, meaning the Welsh side has played in the fifth division of England since the 2008/09 season.

As it stands, Liverpool and Stockport seem to be the only two sides who are involved in the joke in FIFA 23, but it remains unclear as to why the Reds are a target for the light-hearted joke. Who knows, maybe the Hollywood duo are big admirers of Jurgen Klopp's side!
