Wrexham hero Paul Mullin sings for fans as they celebrate promotion

Wrexham player Paul Mullin was captured leading a chorus of fans at the Racecourse Ground yesterday after their team won promotion back to the Football League for the first time in 15 years. A 3-1 win over Boreham Wood was enough to seal the National League title on a day of high drama and emotion.

Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were overjoyed in the stands as fans poured on to the pitch at the final whistle. The owners were joined by fellow Hollywood star Paul Rudd, who earlier drank with fans at The Turf pub outside the ground.

Top scorer Paul Mullin grabbed the decisive goals that put the home team in front early in the second-half. Wrexham had gone behind after just 45 seconds when Lee Ndlovu's clever finish stunned everyone. Elliot Lee's header calmed the nerves when he equalised on 15 minutes before Wrexham got the job done after the break.

Star man Mullin scored a stunning first after cutting in from out wide before he put the cherry on the cake with a smart finish to make it 3-1. In a video shared on Twitter following the match, the Wrexham forward was seen with a microphone as he performed a popular chant to a packed stadium.

In the tweet, shared by sports commentator Chris Mallaband, it wrote: "What a night. What a privilege to be able to be on the pitch post-match to talk to a few of the Wrexham AFC heroes. Incredible season. Phenomenal night. But I had no chance of holding onto the mic once I approached Paul Mullin… #WxmAFC".

In an interview later on in the evening with Wrexham AFC on Twitter, when asked how he felt about their win, Paul Mullin said it was "hard to take it in". He added: "It's been two years of hard work - pressure constant. You know, it hasn't sunk in that I've played under a lot of pressure as I can on myself... it's quite emotional that we've got to the end.

"It's unbelievable. I'm so proud of all the lads, you know. Things that go on around the club it's obviously unbelievable but it adds pressure constantly. It keeps building and stuff happens around the place. You know, we've gone about our business as best as we can and try to put it to one side".

He added: "To repay for these fans, who have given us this support for the two years since I've been here, but 15 years doing out the league. Some people never thought this club would come back, it was the fans that really kept this club afloat. They've kept the club alive, as they say in the songs.

"And obviously Rob and Ryan have come and reinvigorated them and given the community something to shout about. And then the players and staff we've gone out and performed, to give them what they've always wanted for 15 years as another promotion. I'm over the moon for the people, who as a town, they've took to me like I was born here. I absolutely love it here.

"I love them. I couldn't thank them enough but to repay them tonight, this is unbelievable. We're looking forward to the league's season two now."
