Wrexham boss snubbed for promotion treat from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney

Phil Parkinson has revealed he will not join the rest of the Wrexham squad in Las Vegas after 'missing the cut'.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will reward the players with a trip to Sin City in the summer after winning promotion back to the Football League. The Red Dragons lifted the National League title last month following a 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood on April 22.

It was a monumental achievement for Parkinson and his squad as they smashed the fifth-tier points record in the process, accumulating 111 from their 46 matches. Wrexham continued their post-season celebrations with an open-top bus parade across the town on Tuesday as they toasted their success.

Manager Parkinson, who spoke to Sky Sports during the parade, revealed that he will not be heading to Vegas with the rest of the Wrexham squad. He said: "I didn't make the cut for the Vegas trip, unfortunately. We'll leave that one to the lads and hopefully, they will come back in one piece. I'm sure they will."

This comes after top scorer Paul Mullin admitted his partner was not best pleased when she heard the ex-Cambridge striker would be off to Vegas. He is excited by the prospect of a trip to the United States, however.

"I don't know if I can say it yet but we're off to Vegas," Mullin told the Footballers' Football podcast, via ESPN. "It should be unbelievable, that's literally what [the owners] were texting me about two minutes ago. I don't think she (his partner) is too happy about it, but if the owners tell you you've got to go, you've got to go."

Reynolds and McElhenney have done a superb job on and off the pitch since their arrival at the Racecourse Ground two years ago. They have developed the playing squad and also done work in the community. However, reports have suggested the Hollywood duo are making losses - something McElhenney isn't concerned about.

Speaking to S4C ahead of the parade, McElhenney said: "I don't think we're necessarily concerned with losing money as much as we are concerned with making the club sustainable, that was always our intent.

"It is interesting to see a lot of the media that has come out over our annual report from this past year because it is not taking into account so many different things. We don't respond to it because we know what the truth is, which is that the club is certainly on its way to becoming sustainable and that's what our goal is."
