Wrekin Products merges with French company

Civil engineering designer and manufacturer Wrekin Products has joined forces with a French company. The Lichfield-based firm has merged with Produits Industriels Lorrains, which is based in Custines in eastern France and specialises in the design and distribution of cast iron covers and gratings for the country's public highway network.

Wrekin Products is an independent designer, manufacturer and supplier of specialist products for the UK civil engineering industry, including access covers and systems and bespoke steel products.

Wrekin Products was founded more than 40 years ago by the Turner family, who will maintain a shareholding in the newly combined entity, and has added to its UK presence by expansion into Europe.

The two companies already have synergies and the deal is expected to help accelerate growth and further expansion in Europe.

Commercial director Simon Turner said: "This is an excellent opportunity for Wrekin Products and underpins our growth strategy across Europe and our ambitions to increase product innovation.

"While the running of the business will remain exactly the same as before the partnership, this move will undoubtedly unlock new market opportunities for us and we are excited to be working with our new partner and Produits Industriels Lorrains as part of this strategy."

Financial services firm PKF Smith Cooper advised Wrekin Products on the deal.

Partner Darren Hodson said: "We are pleased to have been able to secure a successful deal for the Turner family. The merger of the two businesses is really compelling with significant synergies available to both parties in their respective markets.

"There is a strong opportunity for the combined business to drive further international growth across Europe following the merger."

Law firm Geldards also advised Wrekin Products on the deal.

Head of corporate Debra Martin added: "We were delighted to advise Wrekin Products and members of the Turner family on such an exciting opportunity at this stage of the firm's development. Cross-border transactions such as these present a number of distinct challenges but also demonstrate the ambition and determination for future growth and success shown by both parties.

"The merger also demonstrates the ongoing opportunity for international collaboration as a route to growth for ambitious and well-run UK businesses such as Wrekin Products."
