Wrap aluminium foil around your plants: Aluminium foil is usually something you reach for in the kitchen, but it has another surprisingly specific use in the garden. Gardeners sometimes place reflective aluminium foil around the base of plants or on the soil surface to make it harder for certain insect pests, particularly aphids, to find the plant.
But there is an important distinction here: the idea is not to tightly wrap aluminium foil around the plant itself. It is mainly used as a reflective mulch or barrier around young plants.
