Wowed by govt school and mohalla clinics, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin keen on replicating them in his state

NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin visited a Delhi government school and mohalla clinic on Friday and expressed his willingness to develop a world-class model school in Chennai on the same lines and invite CM Arvind Kejriwal to see it once it was built.

Accepting the invitation, Kejriwal said, “It will be an honour for me. Only education can help build a better society and an empowered nation. Delhi government will love to share its experiences with the Tamil Nadu government and learn from their works too. This country can only progress when we learn from each other’s ideas. All states need to work together to help the country go faster towards development.”

Stalin was accompanied by TN education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. They were informed that earlier government schools in Delhi were called “tent schools”, but now they were competing with private institutions.

Around 11.30am, Stalin reached Rajkiya Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Sector 8 in Rohini, where he was received by Kejriwal and deputy CM Manish Sisodia. He also attended the happiness and Deshbhakti classes and spoke to the children. A team from the Business Blasters programme told him that they started with seed money and earned Rs 1.5 lakh. They also gave employment to 25 residents, some of them being from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

“When I visited the school today, I was amazed to see the initiative #BusinessBlasters to promote the skills of the students there. Students and teachers soaked me with their love,” tweeted Stalin.

Later, Stalin visited an Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinic where he talked to the patients and doctors and learned about the facilities. “I had heard about Delhi government schools and mohalla clinics from my cabinet colleagues and newspapers. I had contacted the Delhi CM a few months ago and told him about my interest in visiting them. My request was accepted and he showed me the schools and mohalla clinics today,” he said.

Sisodia said, “India has waited a long time to see education in the priority list of political parties. This is a new beginning for a better world where states learn from each other’s best practices. By working together, radical changes can be brought in the education system as well as the country. It was a pleasure welcoming the Tamil Nadu CM in our school where he learnt how the wave of change in the Delhi education system was set over the years.”
