Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst has offered an explanation as to why he was seen touching Liverpool's famous 'This is Anfield' sign before the Premier League match between the two teams on Sunday.
Liverpool claimed a famous victory over their rivals at Anfield as they humiliated United in a 7-0 humbling, in which the Dutchman started for Erik ten Hag's side.
The famous sign is located in the tunnel at Anfield and is traditionally touched by Liverpool players before they walk out to take on their opponents. Away players do not touch the sign, but footage has emerged showing Weghorst doing so.

Weghorst, who is on loan at United from Championship leaders Burnley, has taken a lot of criticism on Tuesday for touching the sign and he has taken to social media to give his reason why.
A statement from Weghorst, released on his social media accounts on Tuesday, read: "Normally I never react on media topics, but for this one, it's worth it because you amazing United fans are important to me. So I just want to clarify the video that is doing the rounds.
"From the National team, I know that Virgil always touches that sign and I went to stop him touching it to try and wind him up before the game.
"As a child I always supported FC Twente, and as a proud player now for Manchester United, my dedication to this incredible club can never be questioned.
"Sunday was a terrible day for all of us. We are putting everything into making it right in the next weeks. We will bounce back together and achieve our aims this season!"
