Would-be thief caught red-handed breaking into Paisley home in broad daylight

A Paisley woman was left terrified after catching a would-be thief red-handed breaking into her property.

The woman, who is in her early 20s, had been at home alone in her George Street property yesterday afternoon when she was alerted to someone in her home.

She went to investigate the noise was and discovered the crook dressed entirely in black who had let himself into the property.

She managed to chase him out of her house and he fled the scene before being able to take anything.

The woman was left badly shaken up by the incident, which took place around 12.30pm.

Police in Paisley have now launched an investigation into the distressing incident and are working to trace the man.

He is described as a white male with a Scottish accent, with dark hair and wearing all black clothing.

Inspector Laura Hamill, of Paisley's community policing team, is urging anyone in the area who may have seen or heard anything to get in touch.

She is also urging anyone who may have had any similar experiences in their home to contact the police if they have not already done so.

She said: "The homeowner involved in this incident was left extremely distressed and upset having found someone had entered their property while they were home during the day.

"Thankfully, they were able to chase him out of their home before any belongings were taken.

"We are currently carrying out enquiries and would ask anyone living in George Street or the surrounding area to please get in touch with us if they think they saw this man or heard anything around the time of the incident at 12.30pm.

"We would also ask any members of the public who may have experienced a similar incident to this recently and has not reported it to the police to please do so."
