Severe storms are expected to hit eastern Kentucky through late into the evening. They could potentially bring hail, tornadoes and flooding to the region.
The National Weather Service says a flood watch for the area is in effect until 8 p.m. this evening. They expect the next wave of storms to start after 2 p.m.
Dustin Jordan is a Science and Operations Officer from the National Weather Service in Jackson. He says to stay aware and prepared for any inclement weather alerts.
“Be prepared to take action on our warnings and any new watches to get issued, possibly this afternoon,” Jackson said. “Just go ahead and prepare and like I said, know where your safe place is.”
That includes keeping batteries and other essentials on hand. In the meantime, Jackson says to stay in place as much as possible.
“Don't be out driving around,” Jackson said. “Just kind of stay at home and let the emergency workers do what they need to do across the area.”
Jordan recommends to report any downed trees or power lines to the service in the meantime.
