A Wordle-inspired geography game with a very similar name is the latest free-to-play viral daily puzzle attracting attention.
Worldle, created by French game developer teuteuf, looks and sounds similar to Wordle, the word guessing game that became a viral hit in late 2021, now owned by the New York Times.
Like Wordle, Worldle requires the player to guess the answer in six goes, but instead of looking for a five-letter word, Worldle players are challenged to guess the name of a country based on its map outline.

If players guess incorrectly, they are given a hint in the form of the direction and distance their guess is away from the correct answer.
Created in late January 2022, tueteuf, based in Montpellier, says on Worldle's free-to-play website that his game is "heavily inspired" by Wordle.
While Worldle has not quite hit the viral heights of its word-based cousin, it has grown in popularity this month, reaching half a million daily players on Sunday, February 13, according to its creator.
"You crazy people! It was supposed to be just a small side project! We are now half a million who played #Worldle today," tweeted teuteuf.
Where can I play Worldle
As its name is so similar to Wordle's, you may struggle to find Worldle through Google as it may assume you are looking for Wordle and misspelled it.

Don't worry about the French web address, Worldle can be played in English, and should automatically direct UK-based players to the English site.
As with Wordle, a new Worldle game will be available to play every day.
How do I play Worldle?
Worldle players get six guesses to identify the country based on its map shape. After each incorrect guess players are given a hint, in the form of the direction and the distance in kilometers that the guessed nation is from the correct country. Unlike Wordle, the correct answer is not subject to a five-letter limit.
Players should be aware that the distance hints are worked out based on the centre point of each country, so nations that share a land border can still be calculated as hundreds of kilometers apart.
"The distances displayed correspond to the distances between the selected and the target territory centers," says Worldle's web page
"For instance, the computed distance between United States and Canada is around 2260km even if they have a common border".
Worldle is free to play but its creator accepts donations through a "Buy me a Coffee" page here.
