World's first 'Jumanji' theme park to open in UK next year in £17m project

The UK is set to play host to a global first when a Jumanji theme park opens up next year. Chessington World of Adventures has partnered with Sony Pictures Entertainment to present the 'World of Jumanji'.

The Greater London theme park is splashing £17 million in its biggest ever single investment to date to develop the new themed land. It is due to open in Spring 2023, with brand new rides and attractions for fans of the popular film series to enjoy, reports MyLondon.

Guests to the park will be able to relive the movies as they step into this world-first Jumanji theme park with experiences that delve into the adventures undertaken by the characters in the hit films. The land's entrance is set to be a portal to the overgrown Jumanji jungle.

Once visitors get inside the iconic Jaguar Shrine, which is over 55 feet tall, will loom over guests as it waits for the curse-lifting Jaguar's Eye jewel to be returned. There are set to be more exciting announcements ahead for the 'World of Jumanji' after the official reveal, with rides and attractions still to be shared.

Audiences were first introduced to Jumanji in 1995 when a group were transported into the wild world while playing a mysterious board game. The series was resurrected in 2017 with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle when a collection of teens were sucked into the world and transformed into players.

A sequel also followed in 2019 with Jumanji: The Next Level and the series has had many hit actors throughout its run including Robin Williams, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillian.

Tim Harrison-Jones, Divisional Director at Chessington World of Adventures Resort, said: "What could be more exciting than bringing the global hit Jumanji film franchise to life within the single largest development Chessington has ever seen. We know what it takes to create the ultimate adventure for our guests, spread over 128 acres the Resort already delivers surprises around everyone corner with over 40 wild rides and attractions, zoo with over 1,000 majestic animals and two themed hotels, plus glamping!"

Jeffrey Godsick, EVP of Global Partnerships and Brand Management and Head of Location Based Entertainment at Sony Pictures Entertainment said: "After being entertained by the films for so many years, fans now have the chance to experience Jumanji in a whole new dimension and we are thrilled to be going on this exciting adventure with the creative team at Chessington as Jumanji further expands with its very own themed land."
