World’s choicest hotel brand lands in BKK with The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon

Bangkok’s network of luxury hotels is about to get a shake-up with the arrival of The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon, Asian flagship of the ultra glamourous Standard Hotels brand.

As one of the most feted modern brands, The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon joins The Standard’s inventory of properties in some of the world’s most desirable locations, including London, New York, Miami Beach and the Maldives, as well as The Standard Hua Hin, which opened in 2021

A hotel with such a distinguished pedigree needs an appropriate location, making the distinct architecture of the iconic King Power Mahanakhon building the ideal match to house the sky-high accommodations. Furthermore, the hotel is close to Bangkok’s Old Town, where historic and cultural attractions rub shoulders with the exciting clubs, bars and restaurants that can be found there – all set against the backdrop of the area’s thriving creative community.

The hotel is also just a few minutes from the Chao Phraya River and Lumpini Park and a stone’s throw away from Chong Nonsi BTS station, connecting the splendid residence with the four corners of one of Asia’s greatest cities.

“There is nothing in Bangkok, or the entire region, like what we have created here,” said Amar Lalvani, Executive Chairman for Standard International. “We love the energy, style and culture Bangkok offers and couldn’t be more proud to partner with King Power to open our flagship for the region in this awe-inspiring building, in this incredible city. When we open our doors in May, visitors and locals will be treated to the world of immersive hospitality that only The Standard can create.”

Rooms with a view

Conjured into being by Spanish artist/designer Jaime Hayon in collaboration with The Standard’s award-winning in-house design team, the vibrant colours, fluid shapes, evolving art installations and lush greenery that flow seamlessly from the interior to the exterior describe a bold and striking aesthetic quite different to other luxury properties in Bangkok.

Made up of 155 guest rooms, including the Standard King (40sqm), Deluxe King (45 sqm), Corner King (56sqm), Corner Double (57 sqm), Suite Spot (83 sqm), Balcony Suite (64-85 sqm), Penthouse (105 sqm) and the Bigger Penthouse (144 sqm). The rooms come with an almost sinful level of comfort, boasting sumptuous beds and bedding, rain showers and/or soaking tubs, Nespresso machines, Bang & Olufsen Bluetooth speakers, floor-to-ceiling windows, natural light and city views, big flat-screen TVs, 24-hour gym, minibars, plush seating areas, custom robes, access to Mahanakhon Sky Walk, Davines bath amenities and, of course, free Wi-Fi. Not to mention the extraordinary elevated views of the Big Mango that, as one of Bangkok’s tallest buildings, cannot be beaten.

Eating and drinking

Across the board, Standard hotels always bring the goods when it comes to the culinary arts and The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon will be no different and is ready to serve up a toothsome selection of dishes and refreshments from six different outlets.

The Parlor

The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon’s main social area is the chic heart of the property. It was conceived as a 24-hour destination for relaxing, working or socialising in a lush, plant-dotted environment. In the evenings, the elegant space opens up for a range of activities, such as author talks, cocktail parties, lectures by local influencers and live DJ sets from the in-house Sounds Studio. As the hotel’s more casual eating spot, Parlor offers global comfort foods and updated versions of classic Thai dishes.

Tease

A tantalising name for the hotel’s alluring tearoom, expect a delightful little café where guests receive an experience the owners believe will “truly stun” those who settle down to sip on the expertly curated selection of teas. Tease specialises in a sexy riff on the classic afternoon tea, incorporating American-style deserts into a menu of savoury snacks and sweet bites. The eclectic design – combined with a playful take on a classic – means that guests must expect the unexpected when they enter.

Standard Grill

Despite being inspired by the USA’s long-lasting love affair with the humble heifer, do not for one minute think that this is your average steakhouse. As with all things, The Standard takes a traditional concept, adds a twist and raises the bar. Here, at the hotel’s all-day dining option, guests can meet for breakfast, lunch and dinner, in a superior location. The Standard Grill, one of the brand’s most popular creations, has carved out a special reputation wherever it appears and its debut in Asia, at The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon, will be no exception.

Ojo Bangkok

Helmed by award-winning chef Francisco Paco Ruano, one of the finest young chefs from Mexico, Ojo is bursting with imaginative and tasty takes on authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Channelling vintage sci-fi glamour combined with decor inspired by Mexican culture, the restaurant is a beautiful space and spectacular addition to the Bangkok restaurant scene.

Mott 32

Named after 32 Mott Street in New York, home to NYC's first Chinese convenience store, this celebration of glistening glass and green plant life is another Standard icon transported to Bangkok. Fired up and ready to present big and exciting flavours, the team at Mott 32 draws their influences from across China. The menu includes roast duck, chicken, pork belly and char siu pork, the sweet and sour dishes of Cantonese cuisine as well as delicacies from Szechuan and Beijing. The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon will bring Mott 32’s signature Dim Sum, Apple-Wood Roasted Peking Duck and Barbecue Honey Glazed Iberico Pork to Bangkok for the first time.

Sky Beach

Bangkok is not a city short of a sky-bar or two but Sky Beach instantly takes the top spot for its position as, quite simply, the highest rooftop bar in the city. The 360° vantage point from the sky-bar allows views of the entire city and even hyperbole cannot quite describe the magnificence of this one-of-a-kind, human-scale perch.

Peering down on the streets below, guests with their heads in the clouds after a couple of artful concoctions from the bar’s celebrated local mixologists can drift gently back to Earth with snacks from the western-themed menu. It’s enough to make you dizzy!

Facilities

Landing somewhere between pleasure and health is The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon’s pool area, a place where guests can indulge the hedonist within by opting for boozy refreshment. Or they can go the other way and restore the body and mind with power laps of the 21-metre pool and samples of the Pool Bar’s range of plant-based snacks, juices and smoothies to keep them sparky-fresh and ready to take on the world.

The Standard Gym

Guests who are committed to their fitness and determined to make gains wherever they are will love The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon’s 24-hour fitness centre. In addition to its full range of Technogym machines, free weights, an outdoor terrace and studio space, the 240 sqm workout area is completed by vast windows that flood the space with golden sunshine and create incredible aerial views of the city.

For a sneak peek at what is on offer at Bangkok’s newest lifestyle hotel, The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon has a special pre-opening discount of 25% off the best available rate, including breakfast for up to two people. The offer is available for bookings made between 4 Feb 2022 and 31 July 2022 for stays between 11 May 11 2022 and 28 Feb 2023. Bookings can be made directly via www.standardhotels.com.
