World Cup star lands mammoth drop goal from halfway line

Japan international star Yu Tamura scored a spectacular drop goal from near the halfway line for Yokohama Canon Eagles.

The effort took place in a star-studded semi-final between Yokohama and Panasonic Wild Knights in the Japan Rugby League One. The likes of Marika Koroibete, Damian de Allende and Jesse Kriel were all in action.

Tamura has played for Japan more than 60 times and starred for them at their home World Cup in 2019.

The Knights had a goal-line drop out on 37 minutes, and the ball found its way to the Eagles fly-half on halfway, who took his time before launching a behemoth drop-kick from pretty much 50 metres out. The commentary team and crowd were blown away.

You can watch the stunning effort below:

The 34-year-old's effort wasn't enough to spur on the Eagles to victory, despite them leading 17-15 going into the break. Wild Knights ran away with the win in a 51-20 scoreline, thanks to a hat-trick of tries from Wallaby Koroibete.

The Knights will defend their crown against Bernard Foley's Kubota Spears in the final.
