NEW DELHI: Glenn Maxwell battled through excruciating pain and exhaustion to conjure his first-ever double century as he took Australia to a miraculous three-wicket win over Afghanistan at the World Cup in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Riding on an extraordinary 201 not out from Maxwell, Australia marched into the semi-finals of the World Cup as they snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Afghanistan at the Wankhede Stadium.

Tottering at 91 for 7, the five-time champions Australia were down and out in their chase of 292 but Maxwell pulled off one of the finest knocks in ODI cricket history to help his side pull off a heist.
