BENGALURU: Pakistan’s crunch match against New Zealand turned out to be a Saturday potboiler with record breaking performances, centuries, brutal display of power-hitting and rain! It was probably a reminder of the World Cupdefining league match of 1992 between Pakistan and England in Adelaide, where rain kept the former’s hopes alive in the competition, which they went on to win.
Over three decades ago, it was qudrat ka nizam (law of nature) which came to Pakistan’s rescue, but against New Zealand, it was rampaging opener Fakhar Zaman and his blistering unbeaten 126 (81b; 8x4; 11x6) which neutralised the opposition’s dominance before rain curtailed the match. Pakistan won by 21 runs via the DLS method.
