A man has been taken to hospital after sustaining "possible life-changing injuries" in an incident at a recycling centre in Swansea, police have confirmed.
Officers were called to Swansea Enterprise Park shortly before 8.20am on Saturday, May 28, by paramedics, following reports a man had been injured on the premises. WalesOnline understands the incident occurred at the Swansea Council Baling Plant, next to Llansamlet Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Swansea Council has confirmed the man injured in the incident was a member of staff at the site and a spokesperson said investigations were taking place to find out what happened. An initial statement from Swansea Council explained: "An incident involving a member of staff recently occurred at our household waste plant in Llansamlet. We are investigating the matter and all relevant authorities have been notified." A spokesperson later confirmed to WalesOnline that investigations were "still ongoing," as of June 7, 2022. South Wales Police said initially in a statement: "South Wales Police was called just before 8.20am on Saturday, May 28, by the Welsh Ambulance Service following reports of a man having been injured at premises on Swansea Enterprise Park. The Health and Safety Executive have been informed."
An update on June 7 added: "A 63-year-old man was taken to Morriston Hospital with possible life-changing injuries. Enquires are ongoing."
The nature of the incident at the recycling centre has not yet been confirmed. A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive said: "HSE is aware of this incident and making enquiries.”
